Keratin Hair Treatment, Brazilian Blowdry FAQ
What is keratin?
Keratin is a protein found naturally in skin, hair and nails, in addition to other sources. In human hair, it acts both as an external protective shield and an internal structural protein. Keratin is the first thing depleted when hair is damaged physically, chemically or from environmental factors such as the sun.
What does keratin do?
When used in product formulations, keratin helps condition, strengthen, revitalize and repair damage. Keratin gives the hair shine, elasticity and a youthful healthy appearance.
What causes frizz?
Healthy hair contains proteins (including keratin), water and lipids that work to moisturize and keep strands strong and smooth. With age and damage due to sun and environmental exposure, the hair loses some of these vital components, making it drier and more porous. To compensate, the hair absorbs excess moisture from the air (especially in high-humidity environments), causing the cuticle to swell and thus produce frizz.
Is this treatment a relaxer?
No, it’s a treatment based on Keratin and Collagen that naturally softens, shines, smooth's, eliminates frizz and gives instant manageability.
Can you do the treatment on top of relaxed hair?
Yes you can do the treatment over any previously relaxed hair but only after two weeks
Can you do the treatment on chemically treated hair?
The Brazilian Blow Dry is excellent on all types of chemically treated hair (bleached, hi-lights, coloured, permed, relaxed or any kind of chemical straightener).
Is this service appropriate for all hair types?
It is 100% effective for rejuvenating frizzy, damaged, unhealthy, dull, mistreated hair.
Will it make my hair completely straight?
Although often referred to as a straightening treatment, the Brazilian Blow Dry is extremely versatile for those who want to keep or enhance their luscious curls. It can work to your requirements whilst still repairing any damage and unwanted frizz.
How long does it take?
Times vary depending on the length, thickness and type of hair. It can take between 2½ and 3½ hours.
If I colour or highlight my hair should I do this before or after treatment?
Recommend to do highlights at least 7 days before. The Brazilian Blow dry can be applied 7 days before or after colour. Kerastraight is recommended to be applied at least 2 days before colour, as can lighten colour especially toners.
Can I use any shampoo and conditioner?
For maximum longevity it is recommended to use shampoos and conditioners which are free from parabens and sulfates and contains no sodium chloride. Keratin is actually broken down by sulphates in shampoo quite quickly.
How should hair be dealt with following Kerastraight?
There is no down time or waiting time, hair can be washed just 30 minutes after treatment.
How should hair be dealt with following Nanokeratin & Brazilian Blowdry?
For 3 days post treatment aim to follow these guidelines:
4 to 5 months or more or until the keratin naturally breaks down in your hair.
When should I have the treatment done again?
The treatment is not permanent and does require re-doing approximately every 4 to 5 months depending on individuals hair type and preferences. These treatments are progressive and results will last longer on each treatment as regular treatments will create a build-up producing progressive visible results after each treatment and will help blend treated hair with the natural growth of hair producing a quality of hair growth.
